Treatment philosophy
A Surgical Consultation Does Not Automatically Mean Surgery
The goal of an orthopedic consultation is to understand the diagnosis, how it affects your life and which treatment options make sense. When surgery is appropriate, the plan should be individualized around anatomy, health, function and recovery goals.
PBNJ uses Mako robotic-arm assisted technology for appropriate total knee, partial knee and hip replacement procedures. CT-based planning creates a three-dimensional model used to prepare the surgical plan. During surgery, Dr. Smires guides the robotic arm while the system provides real-time information and defined boundaries; the surgeon remains in control throughout the procedure.
